About our Sugar Land Texas Oculoplastic Practice

When we entered the field of plastic eye surgery, we did so with the intention of bringing the best oculoplastic surgery to all of our patients. As such, we take great pride in doing what we can to ensure that all of our patients feel like they are treated like kings and queens. The plastic surgery procedures we deal with include orbital tumors, blepharoplasty, ectropion, entropion, eyelid reconstruction, eyelid skin cancer, thyroid eye disease, ptosis, and other reconstructive and cosmetic procedures.

Blepharoplasty

One thing we all notice as time passes is the way that our face can make us look older. Aging changes to the face cause saggy skin, bags under the eyes, jowls, and facial wrinkles. Often, aging changes around the eyes are even more pronounced. These eyelid changes are worsened by sun exposure and smoking, very common in Houston and Sugar Land. Overall, loose eyelid skin, puffiness around the eyes, and Crow’s feet can make you appear older and more tired than you actually are.

Blepharoplasty is an in-office procedure that can help give your eyes a more youthful look by ridding eyelids of excess skin, bulging fatty tissue, and lax muscle from both your lower and upper eyelids. In some instances, the excess upper eyelid skin and fat can droop over your eye and obstruct peripheral vision.

As such, a blepharoplasty procedure is a great option for those with the intention of lifting the eyelids and expanding the visual field. The plastic surgeons here at Plastic Eye Surgery Associates are truly the experts as they have performed over 40,000 eyelid procedures.

Upper Eyelid Procedures

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty involves the removal of excess fat and skin from your upper eyelids. Generally speaking, the excess skin on your upper eyelids is more of a problem because it can interfere with vision and cause the eyelids to feel heavy and fatigued. During an upper eyelid procedure, excess skin, muscle, and fat are removed by means of a small incision in the natural crease of the eye.  This leaves an invisible scar and natural look after surgery.

Lower Eyelid Procedures

Similar to an upper eyelid procedure, a lower eyelid procedure will also remove excess skin, fat, and muscle from your lower eyelids. However, the fat in the lower eyelids is usually more pronounced, causing eye bags that may give you a droopy appearance. A lower eyelid blepharoplasty can remove this bulging fat, and also reposition it into areas of hollowing, like the tear trough. In the lower eyelids, we can make a small incision just beneath the lash line or even on the inside of the eyelid, leaving no visible scar at all.

Ptosis Repair

Ptosis is a term that describes droopy upper eyelids. When your upper eyelid margin droops low enough to cover your pupil, it can result in a reduction of the field of vision in both men and women. Those who suffer from ptosis often run into difficulty keeping their eyelids open.

Sometimes, people actually arch their eyebrows and scrunch their forehead to try and raise the drooping eyelids. Additionally, some people within extreme cases of ptosis lift their eyelids with their fingers to achieve better vision. How scary it would be to drive around like that! Importantly, there may be a risk for the development of amblyopia (lazy eye) in cases involving children. This can lead to developmental delays or permanent loss of vision.

Ectropion Repair

Ectropion is a condition where the lower eyelids are rolled away from the eye or sagging away from the eye. This droopy eyelid malposition leaves your eyeball unprotected, causing your ocular surface to become exposed and dry. Unfortunately, when ectropion is left untreated, the condition can lead to chronic tearing and eye infections. Even more, ectropion can lead to crusting of the eyelids, pain, redness, eye irritation, mucous discharge, and even permanent corneal scarring. Luckily, our surgeons can perform a quick fix to reset that eyelid to its natural position.

Entropion Repair

Dr. James Patrinely

As opposed to ectropion, entropion is a condition when the eyelids roll inward towards the eye. Entropion can occur due to aging changes and the weakening of certain eyelid muscles. When a turned-in eyelid and the eyelashes rub against the eye, the eye will tend to become red, irritated, and more sensitive to light and wind.

Even more, when left untreated, entropion cases can cause extreme tearing, pain, mucous discharge, and scarring of the cornea. Often, patients complain about acute sensitivity to light. Entropion could also lead to eye infections, corneal ulcers, or corneal abrasions. A 15-minute procedure could save you from these eye problems if you trust in our oculoplastic surgeons.
