What Should You Expect After a Destin Florida Eye Bag Surgery?

Tired of always looking tired? Expressions such as hooded eyes, puffiness, or bags under the eyes can lead to a worn-out expression that adds many years to your facial appearance. With eye bag surgery, also called blepharoplasty, you can fight off these annoying problems by improving your appearance. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects these eyelid problems. As a result, you won’t appear to be tired, older, or even angry.

Even more, blepharoplasty can also help relieve problems with vision caused by sagging eyelids that interfere with your line of vision. You can have eye surgery performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Patients are always amazed by the difference that this procedure has on their facial appearance. Blepharoplasty is great for giving patients a more open, youthful refreshed look.

Interested in Eye Bag Surgery?

Are you interested in undergoing eye bag surgery or other cosmetic eyelid procedures? If so, then here are some guidelines that can help determine whether you are a good candidate for a procedure around the eye:

  • If you’re healthy and have no serious medical conditions
  • You are unhappy with eyelids that are sagging and impeding your vision
  • You’re bothered by a hooded eye appearance that persists even when the brow is raised
  • Excessive puffiness or bags under your eyes
  • Too many wrinkles around your eyes
  • A cheek pad that has descended, leaving a hollow shadow under your eyes

What Does the Procedure Entail?

The amount of time that a blepharoplasty procedure takes depends on the extent of eyelid tissue and fat manipulation required around the eye being treated. As outpatient procedures, blepharoplasty and other eyelid surgeries are performed using local or light anesthesia to help the patient relax during the procedure.  Your comfort is our priority.

Upper Eyelid/ Eye bag Surgery

When the procedure addresses the upper eyelids, the doctor will make a small incision along the natural creases along the upper eyelid. This allows for an invisible scar that is hidden once fully healed. From this incision, the surgeon will remove excess skin, fat, and muscle. Some people have a fat pocket that protrudes in the inner corner of the eyelid. Luckily, this can be removed.

Sometimes, people have problems not being able to open their eyes all of the way. If needed, the eyelid muscle can also be tightened for an eye lift as specified. This is important in cases of ptosis, or a droopy eyelid. Afterward, the incisions are closed with tiny sutures.

Lower Eyelid/Eye bag Surgery

When it comes to lower eyelids, a doctor will make a small incision just under the eyelashes of the lower lid or inside the eyelid. Then, they remove the excess fat pads that contribute to bags under the eye. Next, the fat will be repositioned to the hollow areas of the tear trough to get rid of dark shadows.

Sometimes, we’ll tighten the eyelid muscles. Then, the doctor will lift the cheek pads to a higher position to prevent your eyes from having a hollowed-out look. As such, you’ll be left with lifted mid-face and a more rested appearance.  This surgery will leave you with more volume, giving a youthful look.

Recovering from the Surgery

After the surgery, you may experience symptoms such as tearing, slightly blurred vision, sensitivity to light, redness, bruising, puffiness, and even some numbness in the area. These symptoms will typically last a couple of weeks. Swelling, puffiness, and bruising can last anywhere from several days to weeks post-surgery. The amount of time that these symptoms last depends on the patient. Please note that these issues are temporary and will resolve with time.

You can alleviate swelling by using a clean and cold compress placed gently on the area around the eye. You should be ready to expect mild discomfort, which can be relieved with generic medication such as Tylenol. Although, you should avoid using products containing aspirin, ibuprofen, and other pain relievers that can increase the chances of bleeding.

After you undergo this surgery, you should avoid strenuous activities such as exercise and anything with heavyweights. You should avoid these activities for about 10 to 14 days after the surgery. In most cases, patients are able to return to work within a week to 10 days after the procedure.
