We believe the eyes are the most important part of the face because they talk for themselves. People can pick up details from your eyes that your words may not say. They portray feelings of being tired, scared, or even disinterested.

We always have people coming into our office with goals for what they want to do with their eyes. We will work with each individual patient to reach those goals with a professional approach. There are a lot of factors to consider when going blepharoplasty surgery, from the appearance of the lash line to how much excess skin needs to be removed. Our doctors have a years of experience in facial procedures, so you will be in great hands.

What is Blepharoplasty Surgery?

Blepharoplasty is a type of plastic surgery that removes excess skin and tissue from the eyelids. This surgical procedure is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the United States. It is almost as popular as breast augmentation and nose surgery. That being said, blepharoplasty can be a complex decision to make because of a large number of factors doctors and need to consider together.

We get a lot of questions about how we have become the leading blepharoplasty surgery center. Ultimately, we our approach each patient as an individual with different goals and challenges, and that makes us stand out. We understand that each person’s facial structure and goals are different from the next.

Facial features such as forehead size, facial symmetry, and eyebrow position are important to assess. Furthermore, we also take age, gender, and race into account because they also affect the face in different ways. We don’t want to turn an 80-year-old’s eyes into those of a young person. Their eyes won’t match the rest of their face, nor will they portray the wisdom and grace of an 80 year-old. Race plays a factor because certain races have different eyelid anatomy than others.

How do I prepare for Blepharoplasty Surgery?

If you are truly interested in this facial procedure, then there are a few things you need to consider. First, we highly recommend you come in with a realistic goal. We can’t make you look like Jane Fonda or Michelle Pfeiffer, but we want you to look like the best version of you. The last thing we want is for you to feel your goal is unattainable, but we will discuss all of the surgical options to make sure you are happy with your cosmetic results. We may even consider a brow lift, forehead lift, Botox or Dysport injections, or surgery for lower eyelid bags that may complement your blepharoplasty.

Next, schedule a consultation with the leaders in Sugar Land TX blepharoplasty, Plastic Eye Surgery Associates. We will sit down with you and thoroughly discuss your goal. Our expert medical advice will allow us to make this important decision together. We always provide detailed instructions before surgery care and post op care so that you don’t have any confusion. This allows us to maximize the results of blepharoplasty surgery.

What can I expect during surgery?

Blepharoplasty surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, so you will go home soon after the procedure is complete. Some people need IV anesthesia or a Valium to ease their nerves. Each patient is different, but our goal is to make your as comfortable as possible. Next, we will inject a numbing agent into the upper or lower eyelids.

Sugar Land Texas Eye Plastic Surgery

Dr. James Patrinely

We first start with an incision in the upper eyelids along the natural eyelid crease. Placement of the incision in this area is great for hiding the scar and minimizing scarring after surgery. The doctor will then remove the loose skin and possible fatty deposits. If the muscle needs to be tightened or reattached to lift a droopy eyelid, then this will happen next. Finally, the incision is carefully closed with stitches.

If we are also doing a lower eyelid blepharoplasty, a small incision will be made just below the eyelashes or on the inside of the lower eyelid. This procedure mostly removes the prolapsed fat that causes lower eye bags. Excess skin may or may not also be removed at this time.

How long is the recovery?

Recovery for blepharoplasty surgery is very short compared to other procedures. As mentioned before, patients will get to leave the same day as their surgery. We will keep you in a monitoring room for some time after the procedure to make sure you don’t have any reactions or other problems. Once you go home, the doctor may suggest taking pain meds or using ice packs.

Mild pain, swelling, and bruising may occur along with blurry vision and sensitivity to light. These symptoms usually last from a few days to a few weeks.  Every day your eyes will look better and better. Our doctors are always available if you need to contact us with any questions or concerns after your surgery. Patients who wear contact lenses will need to keep from doing so for at least two weeks and use glasses instead.
