Whats Unique About Our Practice

What Makes Plastic Eye Surgery Associates, PLLC Unique?

We Train and Educate Fellow Physicians

For over a decade, we wrote the board and certifying examination questions used to assess the competency of other physicians, allowing them to practice ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery.

We helped write THE definitive study book series used to train resident physicians all over the world in our area of expertise.

Leaders in Developing the Use of Cosmetic Fillers and Injectables

We have been leaders in developing the use of cosmetic fillers and injectables, including Botox®, Dysport®, and the hyaluronic acids, Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvederm®.

We performed the first large-scale clinical studies of Dysport® in the United States in 2004.

We wrote the seminal article on correct use of botulinum toxins in the face published in 1988. (Patrinely JR, Whiting SA, and Anderson RL: The local side effects of botulinum toxin injections. In: Jankovic, J. and Tolosa, E. (eds): Advances in Neurology: Facial Dyskinesia. New York, Raven Press, 1988, pp. 493-500).

We uncovered treatment practices commonly used by many physicians responsible for decreasing the effect of botulinum toxin injections.

(Sami MS, Soparkar CNS, Patrinely JR, Hollier LM, Hollier LH. Efficacy of botulinum toxin type A after topical anesthesia. Ophthal Plast Reconstr Surg. 22(6):448-452, 2006).

Discovered Reversal Techniques for Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

We recognized the enzyme used to reverse the hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvederm®), wrote the very first papers on this topic, and instructed physicians worldwide in this technique which has now become the standard of care.

50 – 70% of our practice is repairing the work of others.

Ours is the only practice in the Greater Houston and Florida Panhandle areas limited EXCLUSIVELY to surgery on the eyelids and eye socket and injectables in the face.

One of the Leading Blepharoplasty Practices in the World

Our combined clinical and surgical experience is profound. We perform an average of 1,000 blepharoplasty surgeries each year (compared to 28/year by the average member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons in 2008) and over 200 orbital decompressions for thyroid eye disease each year.

We are internationally recognized leaders in our field. With patients seeking us out from across the globe. Having published hundreds of original articles, given hundreds of lectures around the world, described numerous syndromes and unique conditions, developed a myriad of now commonly used surgical techniques.

Recognized across the country by patients and other physicians for our excellence.

Most importantly, our patients understand how much entire staff cares.
